Preview of the 2015 Belmont Stakes

The Fan vs The Gambler

The Fan...

Well, well, well here we are again. Another horse with a chance at a Triple Crown. Its been 37 years and its only 1 ½ miles away. One and a half of the hardest miles American Pharoah will ever have to run in his career. This will be his 3rd race in 5 weeks he will be facing some good rested horses like Frosted and Materiality. He will also be facing some horses who are built for distances like this like Keen Ice and Madefromlucky. We have seen this situation 13 other times since the last Triple Crown but this time feels different. I actually think he is going to do it. Although at first glance before the Derby I did question his distance pedigree due to the fact that his father, Pioneerof The Nile, faded down the Churchill stretch in the 2009 Kentucky Derby. I think everything like that has to be thrown out the window. When you watch this horse he is a machine. He has been so good in everything he has ever done and in every race he has left no question that he was the best horse that day. 12 men have walked on the moon, only 11 horses have won the Triple Crown. It's been 37 years and to break a 37 year streak it was going to take a super horse. American Pharoah is that horse. The time has come. Let it happen.

The Gambler...

Something always goes wrong at Belmont. For example last year, California Chrome had a chance to break the streak and a horse named Matterhorn who was the longest shot in the field steps on California Chrome’s front right foot out of the gate a rips a chunk of it off. California Chrome went on to finish 4th with his incomplete foot.

Its that type of thing that has killed Triple Crown chances time and time again. When you bet the Belmont with a Triple Crown on the line I like to find the live longshot. In 2004 Birdstone closed on Smart Jones at 40-1, in 2008 D’Tara got loose on the lead and when Big Brown was pulled up went on to win at 41-1. For me this year that horse is KEEN ICE he runs one speed but he runs all day. I have no distance concerns with this horse. Every race he runs he is gaining ground in the stretch. He most likely will be anywhere from 20-1 to 30-1 come post and will just be betting him across the board (Win, Place & Show) probably in some ladder type of bet. ( for example $10 Win, $20 Place, $30 Show) I will also be playing the Pick 4, Pick 3, and Daily Double singling American Pharoah. This really isn't a great bettors race so im not going to go crazy this is more of a spectator day where I just sit back and root for the Triple Crown. Only difference is for once, I think it's going to happen.

Fun Fact: American Pharoah covers 4% more ground then Secretariat in each stride. For comparison purposes California Chrome's stride angle was 100 degrees.
Official Picks:
#1 Horse Mubtaahij 12-1 Odds
#5 Horse American Pharoah 3-5 Odds
#7 Horse Keen ice 20-1 Odds
Use them how you want ' mix it up..
You have to get that American Pharoah to win ticket even if it's for $2, having piece of history will be worth it.
