I've got Leasean McCoy on my team, so there is a reason to watch the jets/Bills game

Follow me on Twitter:

It is here! Week one of the NFL season is finally here. We have 17 weeks of family fun ahead for my family, as we gather each Sunday to watch the Broncos (unless it’s a bye week, MNF or TNF week). It’s the best time of year for me, not only do I get to watch something I enjoy, but spend time with the people whom I love. What could be better?  How about caring about a Cowboys/Giants game because you want Zeke to score a touchdown… Fantasy football has opened up people to watching more than what is on their local broadcast.

If you’re a student, please check out Sunday Ticket U. You can stream every out of market game all season long for $100, or if you find a coupon $80! If one of your kids is in college, do the same...all you need is a valid college email address.

Over the course of the season, I’ll usually have this post written before the Thursday night game with an update before Sunday starts. Life just didn’t have it in the cards for me to be able to do that this week. I would’ve been wrong telling you to start Cooks and Brady(you would have started them no matter what I said) and not starting Alex Smith. I would've been right telling you to start Kareem Hunt and Tyreek Hill. This can all be found on my Twitter Timeline. Did anyone foresee Alex Smith and Kareem Hunt having their way with the Patriots all night long? No! If they say they did, they’re lying. We can’t see into the future. I can’t say for sure Aaron Rodgers will score the most points for a QB this Sunday, but he should be at least top 5. I can’t say for sure that Le’veon Bell will be the top scoring back, or Odell Beckham Jr. will even play. I don’t own a crystal ball, nor know where to get one! I did date a witch once and am pretty sure she put a 5 year love curse on me. Luckily that’s over. She had mystical powers. I do not.

All I can do, as the same with every person who writes anything about what may or may not happen in the future, is to make educated guesses. I can look at matchups, skill, value, weather, home vs. away…. Many many factors go into rankings. It isn’t as simple as Ben Roethlisberger has the best WR in football and is playing the Browns. He will be the #1 QB. It isn’t The Chargers are playing the best pass Defense in the league, away, on Monday Night Football, so I should bench Keenan Allen. Ben will get his yards, Allen will get his catches….but does anyone of us know how many? No….but we can try our best to come as close as we can. We get yelled at, screamed at, and told we’re idiots on Twitter and other mediums. At the end of the day, you read what we write...and if you’re reading this..THANK YOU...I appreciate you. It is ultimately your final decision who to start and who to sit, I can only offer my opinion based upon the research that I did. As Brad Evans from Yahoo! fantasy sports put it “People want me to see into the future….This week’s lottery picks are 03, 43, 22, 09, 47, oh and Kanye wins in 2020.”

As stated in previous notes, I like to stream DST all season long. I will pick/write about a team that is owned in less than 50% of ESPN leagues. This week I will stream the Steelers. They have arguably the best offense in the NFL, are playing the Browns with Rookie QB Deshone Kizer(I’m a huge fan of his, but let’s get real….it’s first NFL start) and TJ Watt has taken over for James Harrison. The Steel show has also added Joe Haden. Who is Kizer going to throw it to?  Do you really have faith in Kenny Britt? Cleveland has an above average OL and I really like their running backs, but if Pittsburgh puts up points early and forces Cleveland to abandon the run….the Steelers secondary may be in for a big day with a few picks and maybe even a TD. The pass rush will lead to mistake by Kizer.

I won’t waste anymore of your time. Thanks for reading...Week 1 rankings by position:

1. Ben Roethlisberger

2. Marcus Mariota

3. Matt Ryan

4. Aaron Rodgers

5. Russell Wilson

38. CJ Prosise

39. Duke Johnson Jr.

40. James Conner

Does anyone know who will carry the load for the Bengals? No, I’m think Mixon gets most of the touches and Gio is worth a flex in a PPR league. Jamaal Charles is going to take away touches from CJ Anderson. What will the Saints backfield look like? Go with the Hot Hand? How about AP runs over his former team? Seattle backfield is a mess. If you can, play the guy who will get most of the touches for their team. It’s just hard to say who that will be week 1 for most teams. I also believe James Conner will get a lot of second half PT once the game is out of hand as to not injure Bell. Bell has been a hold out all preseason and just signed 9 days ago.

34. Jamison Crowder

35. Ted Ginn Jr.

36. Donte Moncrief

37. Kendall Wright

38. Marvin Jones

39. John Brown

40. Cooper Kupp

A lot of teams WR2 are going to have a big week. I’m really high on Brandon Marshall and Cooper Kupp this week. How healthy will Odell be? Will John Ross play? Will the Colts WR’s see catchable balls? Oakland has a two headed monster, so who gets fed this week? Pittsburgh has the killer B’s all back this week, I was half tempted to list Le’veon as a WR too!  Do we trust any Cleveland or NYJ WR? PPR leagues can be great for garbage time points.

15. LA Chargers

Miami and Tampa has been canceled due to Hurricane Irma. Life is more important than a game. I listened to NFL radio this week and could not believe the amount of callers upset about canceling a game that now puts Miami and Tampa in a horrible situation due to playing 16 straight games. Green Bay played 16 straight games last year. The people in Miami and Tampa may not have homes to come back to. Players are human beings too. Preach preach preach Chris….stick to sports! Geez.

Other tidbits:

Remember when the city of New Orleans rallied around the Saints after Katrina?  I’m looking at you Houston! The Texans game should be wild!

Week 1 is always full of surprises and upsets. As I mentioned earlier, no one predicted a KC blowout or MONSTER numbers for Alex Smith and Kareem Hunt and not for Tom Brady.

Week 1 also has many divisional matchups. There are 7 games played between teams in the same division. I am also not a huge fan of the double header Monday night. I live on the east coast and my Broncos won’t start until after bedtime. I’ll be up til 1-2am watching football and work a 12 hour day Tuesday. Worth it!

With all the talent in Pittsburgh, who will get the ball? We know AB and Le’veon will see touches, but Martavis Bryant is going to torch Cleveland at some point. Is there enough ball to make everyone happy? Maybe they hang 50 on Cleveland… no one in Pittsburgh can be mad at that right? Who knows maybe Cleveland makes the upset...I see the 8-8 this year(I am nuts!)

Do we trust anyone one on the Jets offense?  Bilal Powell is a start, and I’m interested to see what Forte brings this year. You really can’t trust anyone else. On the other side of the ball in that game, Tyrod Taylor will start after clearing the concussion protocol…..who does he throw to? We know they want to run Shady, since they cut his back up. Does Zay Jones see most of the targets? It's really a huge unknown.

And we will finish up on one last round of fun fantasy team names:

ZEKE out on BAILey

Submit to a higher Powell.

Gronkey Kong

And my new favorite : Mr. Rodgers neighborhood
