Minnesota Viking @ Green Bay Packers

Vegas Lines:

Line: GB -3 (-110)

Total : O/U 43 (-112)

Key Trends

Green Bay is 0-6-1 ATS in its last 7 games after an ATS win.

The total has gone UNDER in 7 of the Vikings’ last 9 games vs the Packers (avg. combined score: 40.33).

Minnesota is 9-3-1 ATS in its last 13 September games.

Minnesota News & Notes

The Vikings said they were committed to winning via the ground game, and they didn’t deviate from that plan in Week 1. In their win over Atlanta, Minnesota rushed the ball 38 times, totaling 172 yards, and only attempted 10 passes all game.

Quarterback Kirk Cousins completed eight of those passes and threw a touchdown, but the star was third-year back Dalvin Cook, who ripped off 111 yards and two scores.

The defense was equally dominant, forcing three turnovers and yielding just 73 rushing yards as they cruised to finish off a game they led 28-0 in the fourth quarter.

Minnesota has seen the UNDER hit in six of its last seven games. If stout defense and strong running remains the Vikings’ calling card, expect that to continue.

  • The total has gone UNDER in 6 of Minnesota's last 7 games.
  • Minnesota are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games against Green Bay.
  • Minnesota are 5-1-1 SU in their last 7 games against Green Bay.
  • The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Minnesota's last 6 games on the road.

Green Bay News & Notes

The Packers knew it was going to be a tough game against the Bears in Chicago, but boy, their Week 1 win was a plodding experience.

Neither team accumulated 255 total yards, they combined for 93 rushing yards, and future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers threw for just 203 yards.

It’s difficult to attribute the game to phenomenal defenses or rusty, inept offenses, but we can’t argue that it’s a trend with the Packers. Despite the new coach in Matt LaFleur, the total has gone UNDER in eight of Green Bay’s last 11 games.

  • The total has gone UNDER in 8 of Green Bay's last 11 games.
  • The total has gone UNDER in 7 of Green Bay's last 9 games against Minnesota.
  • The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Green Bay's last 6 games at home.
  • Green Bay are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games when playing at home against Minnesota.

Seattle Seahawks @ Pittsburgh Steelers

Vegas Lines:

Line: PIT -4 (-105)

Total : O/U 47 (-113)

Key Trends

The total has gone UNDER in 5 of Seattle’s last 7 September road games.

The total has gone UNDER in 4 of the last 5 games in this matchup (avg. combined score: 36.8).

The Steelers are 13-3 SU in their last 16 games when hosting a West Coast team.

Seattle News & Notes

The good news is that Seattle has now won 15 straight September home games. The bad news is they did it very unconvincingly against a weak Cincinnati Bengals squad.

The Seahawks were physically outplayed in the game, as last year’s top-ranked rushing offense gained just 72 yards (and they garnered 233 yards overall), while the defense allowed a whopping 418 passing yards to Cincy’s Andy Dalton.

What saved the Seahawks was the usual heroics from star quarterback Russell Wilson, who had an efficient 196 yards and two touchdowns, plus timely miscues from the Bengals, including three turnovers, a failed fourth-down attempt and a missed field goal, resulting in a one-point victory.

It’s not getting easier for Seattle, which is 1-8 SU and 0-8-1 ATS in its last nine September road games. The Seahawks need to play a much better and cohesive game, or it could be a long Sunday.

  • The total has gone OVER in 8 of Seattle's last 10 games.
  • Seattle are 7-2 SU in their last 9 games.
  • The total has gone OVER in 4 of Seattle's last 5 games on the road.
  • Seattle are 1-4 SU in their last 5 games when playing on the road against Pittsburgh.

Pittsburgh News & Notes

The football world was excited to see what the first game for Pittsburgh, without distractions from Antonio Brown and Le’Veon Bell, would look like. A matchup against New England in Foxborough isn’t the fairest test, but Steelers coach Mike Tomlin put it best: “We weren’t ready for prime time.”

The Steelers were eviscerated by New England 33-3, and there was really nothing positive to take away from the game. James Conner managed just 21 rushing yards, while JuJu Smith-Schuster had a quiet six catches for 78 yards. The Steelers also allowed New England to roll for 465 total yards, providing little defensive resistance.

To make things worse, Smith-Schuster also suffered a toe injury late in the loss, and his status for Week 2 is in question. They’ll need him if they wish to reverse their recent string of going 2-5 ATS in their last seven games.

  • Pittsburgh are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games.
  • The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Pittsburgh's last 5 games.
  • Pittsburgh are 2-5 SU in their last 7 games.
  • The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Pittsburgh's last 5 games against Seattle.

New Orleans Saints @ Los Angeles Rams

Vegas Lines:

Line: LAR -2 (-105)

Total : O/U 52.5 (-105)

Key Trends

New Orleans is 7-2 ATS in its last 9 road games.

New Orleans is 0-5 ATS in the past 5 road meetings.

Los Angeles is 8-1 SU in its last 9 home games.

New Orleans News & Notes

Many have questioned the arm strength of New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees, who at 40 years old has looked like he has declined a bit unlike six-time Super Bowl winner Tom Brady of the New England Patriots.

That said, Brees managed to come through in the clutch yet again in leading the Saints to a 30-28 victory against the Texans with a bunch of big throws while finishing with 370 passing yards and two touchdowns.

The emergence of Alvin Kamara as the featured running back with Mark Ingram gone to the Baltimore Ravens has also kept the offense extremely dangerous, continuing to look like one of the very best in the league. Revenge will definitely be on their minds here, and that could end up being the difference.

  • New Orleans are 0-6 ATS in their last 6 games.
  • The total has gone UNDER in 7 of New Orleans' last 10 games.
  • New Orleans are 15-3 SU in their last 18 games.
  • New Orleans are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games against LA Rams.

Los Angeles News & Notes

The Rams did just enough to beat the Carolina Panthers on the road last week 30-27 as 1.5-point favorites, thwarting their opponent’s comeback attempts each time to pull off the victory.

While Los Angeles running back Todd Gurley looked good in limited action with 14 carries for 97 yards, it was Malcolm Brown who found pay dirt twice and finished with 53 yards on 11 carries to give the team a much-needed one-two punch.

Quarterback Jared Goff did not perform particularly well after agreeing to a four-year contract extension worth $134 million, with $110 million guaranteed, and he will need to play better if he is going to top Brees again.

  • LA Rams are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games.
  • LA Rams are 5-1 SU in their last 6 games.
  • LA Rams are 8-1 SU in their last 9 games at home.
  • LA Rams are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games when playing at home against New Orleans.

Philadelphia Eagles @ Atlanta Falcons

Vegas Lines:

Line: PHI -1 (-105)

Total : O/U 52.5 (-105)

Key Trends

The total has gone UNDER in the Eagles’ last three games on the road (avg. combined score: 29.67).

The Falcons are 9-1 SU and ATS in their last 10 games in Week 2.

The Falcons are 8-3 SU in their last 11 games at night.

Philadelphia News & Notes

After the Eagles scored just seven points through the first two quarters, many wondered if Carson Wentz’s critics were right, but a 25-point second-half barrage reminded us to never judge a book by its Week 1 first-half cover. Overreactions are part of the Week 1 process, but this Eagles offense is loaded.

It appears Philadelphia is going with a true running back by committee as Jordan Howard, Darren Sproles and Miles Sanders shared the backfield workload. Howard averaged 7.3 yards per rush on six carries, but it’s something to remember after Minnesota’s Dalvin Cook and Alexander Mattison just carved up the Falcons rush defense for 160 yards and two touchdowns.

DeSean Jackson finished with 154 receiving yards. The other seven Eagles to record a reception combined for 159 yards. Need to work on that.

Although they allowed 20 first-half points and didn’t force a turnover, the Eagles defense did nearly pitch a second-half shutout, held the Redskins to 2.2 yards per rush and hit Case Keenum seven times.

On the injury front, defensive tackle Malik Jackson is out indefinitely with a foot/ankle injury.

  • Philadelphia are 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 games.
  • Philadelphia are 5-1 SU in their last 6 games.
  • Philadelphia are 13-4-1 ATS in their last 18 games against Atlanta.
  • Philadelphia are 11-4 SU in their last 15 games against Atlanta.

Atlanta News & Notes

The Vikings pass rush finished with seven hits and four sacks of Matt Ryan. Devonta Freeman finished with eight carries for 19 yards. If the Falcons are going to flip the script on an injury-plagued 2018 season, this needs to be fixed ASAP.

Defensively, they let a one-dimensional Vikings rush offense beat them. Kirk Cousins only attempted 10 passes and the Vikings offense scored 28 points. Carson Wentz is going to attempt more than 10 passes and test that Falcons secondary.

It was learned Monday that first-round draft pick and starting offensive lineman Chris Lindstrom broke his foot in Week 1 at Minnesota and will be in a walking boot for eight weeks. Before this injury, Pro Football Focus had

  • Atlanta are 2-7 ATS in their last 9 games.
  • The total has gone UNDER in 6 of Atlanta's last 9 games.
  • Atlanta are 3-6 SU in their last 9 games.
  • The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Atlanta's last 5 games against Philadelphia.
